Proficiency- Based Learning at CCS

  • At CCS we are committed to excellence in learning for all students.  As we continue to grow in our educational best practices to ensure that all students have the opportunity to thrive, there is a shift in emphasis from what is being taught, to what students are learning.

    Proficiency-based learning refers to systems of instruction, assessment, grading, and academic reporting that are based on students demonstrating that they have learned the knowledge and skills they are expected to learn as they progress through their education.

    Here is a 7 minute video that explains the what and why of Proficiency-Based Learning.  The video is a clear simple explanation and is narrated by students and published by the Great Schools Partnership.  

    To support our growth in this direction, we have three proficiency-based learning coaches.  Mary Muroski continues to work at CCS in this new role.  Emily Rinkema and Stan Williams, CSSU coaches, also bring their many years of experience at CVU with proficiency-based learning and grading, to CCS. Stan and Emily are working two days a month this year at CCS.
